How My Instagram Posts Started Appearing in Google Search Results
A lot of people treat Instagram and Google as if they were two different worlds, but they’re not. In this post, I’ll explain how an Instagram post appears on Google. Google reads the text in your posts (captions, alt text, and even comments) to understand what your photo is about. When you use the the right keywords, your post may appear in Google Images and in the search results of people who are already looking for exactly what you sell.
In this guide, you'll learn which keywords to use, where to place them, and how to write a caption that works for both Instagram's algorithm and Google, and I'll give you practical before-and-after examples.
How to Make Your Instagram Post Show Up on Google, and Why Does It Work?
This means: More people finding you without you having to pay for ads, every day, even while you sleep. Unlike feed reach, which lasts only a few hours, a well-optimized post can continue to drive traffic weeks or months after it's published.
“You don’t need more followers. You need to reach the people who are already looking for what you sell.”
How Google “Reads” Your Instagram
Google evaluates the content of your post based on 5 key points:
- A post caption: This is the description that accompanies the photo or video
- O alt text (alternative text): filled in when you post, and you can find it under “More Options”
- A profile bio
- O profile name: (it doesn't always have to be just the brand)
- The hashtags: on a smaller scale, with no more than 3 hashtags
In other words: the clearer and more specific your text is, the easier it is for Google to understand what the post is about and show it to the right person at the right time.
The Best Keywords by Category
I've organized them by theme so you can choose the ones that match what you post. Always use them in the singular and plural, and combine general terms with more specific ones.
🎁 Personalized Products (General)
| personalized gift | personalized party favor |
| personalized stationery | custom kit |
| custom article | creative gift |
| custom-made to order | handcrafted product |
🎉 Holidays and Special Occasions
| party decorations | Customized children's party |
| birthday party favor | party kit |
| personalized invitation | cake topper |
| party display | Father's Day gift |
| Mother's Day gift | christening favor |
| party favors for godparents | |
📍 Location + intent (the ones that convert the most)
| Custom-made in [your city] | gift shop in [your city] |
| Where to buy personalized party favors | party supplies near me |
| personalized gift, fast delivery | |
💡 Query / search intent (what a person types into Google)
| What to give as a gift to… | idea for an inexpensive party favor |
| How to Make a Custom Kit | gift for a wedding godmother |
| creative and inexpensive gift idea | |
Golden tip: Keywords in the “question/search intent” category are the ones that bring in the most new customers, because people don’t know you yet—they’re looking for a solution, and your post could be the answer.
How to Use Keywords in Practice
- Start the caption with the main keyword. The first two lines are the most important, both for Google and for anyone who only sees the beginning of the post in their feed.
- Write as if you were explaining it to someone who has never met you. Instead of “I loved making this today,” explain what it’s about: the product, what it’s for, and what makes it unique.
- Always fill in the image's alt text (On Instagram: When posting, tap “Advanced Settings” → “Accessibility” → “Enter Alt Text”). Describe the photo accurately, including the keyword.
- Use 3 to 5 relevant hashtags, with at least one specific to your city or niche. Hashtags that are too generic (like ##amor or ##instagood) don't help.
- Update your bio with a clear keyword describing what you sell + your city, if you serve local customers.
Practical example: before and after
“Guys, look how cute this is—I absolutely loved making it. Let's head over to the store!”

Frequently asked questions
Do hashtags still help with Instagram SEO?
They help, but to a lesser extent than before. Google places more weight on captions and alt text. Use hashtags specific to your niche and city, and avoid terms that are too generic.
Do I need to fill in the alt text for every post?
Yes. It's one of the most important factors in helping Google understand what the image is about, in addition to making the content accessible to people with visual impairments.
How long does it take for a post to appear on Google?
It can range from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the strength of your profile and the competition for the chosen keyword.
